Free your mind

Clutter. It happens to everyone. A few things under the bed, a couple of boxes in a closet, all that junk in the kitchen drawer, and don’t even mention the garage.
We do this with our memories and emotions, too, storing up negative feelings in the corners of our minds and sometimes in our muscles. Bad memories, bad habits, compulsions, addictions, all of these things can take a toll on your overall well-being.
One group of therapeutic tools – Emotional Freedom Techniques, or EFT – encompasses the knowledge of many traditional and alternative therapies. "Developed in 1990, EFT is still a new and revolutionary approach to emotional healing," says Collette Streicher, a Houston-area practitioner. "Using the same pressure points, or energy meridians, that acupuncturists have used for centuries, EFT repairs your energy system."
Therapy sessions include repeating simple tapping of the meridians with your fingers (no needles!) and vocalizing positive and sometimes humorous phrases to help solve problems. "It’s the best self-help technique because you can do it yourself after reading up or working with a trained therapist," says Streicher. "And more importantly, it is a solution, not a maintenance program."
